Mörk Beard

Concept: “A face to be worn by the PCs”
Content:
Another beard fit for Tony Vasinda
Writing:
Two short sentences full of baleful beardiness
Art/design:
Comes with a free face attached
Usability:
Obey the beard.

Nameless Pilgrim

Concept: “Explorers in the further regions of experience. Demons to some, angels to others.”
Content:
A name-themed monster/person who steals letters instead of dealing damage
Writing:
The descriptive text handles its nontraditional content well and maintains a strong tone
Art/design:
Flat ground and simple typography bring out the illustration’s contours and details
Usability:
Especially lethal against PCs with short names

Pantomath

Concept: “He will grant false knowledge for a price.”
Content:
An anti-soothsayer on a tuffet of pus
Writing:
Sharp and concise with ominous tone and imagery
Art/design:
Well delineated text sections and symbolic integration of the title with the illustration
Usability:
Particularly detrimental to murderhobos; ties in with other Babalonian Jam content

Scarlet Descent

Concept: “A submission to the Babalonian Jam!”
Content:
A no-frills dungeon with plenty of character
Writing:
Lean and efficient delivery of information and mechanical elements
Art/design:
An isometric map clearly coordinated with well-delineated room descriptions
Usability:
Open-ended so GMs can work it into their game however they see fit

Scarlet Descent: Black Obelisk

Concept: A sequel to the Scarlet Descent dungeon
Content:
8 weird and macabre rooms with unique hazards and challenges
Writing:
Vivid descriptions of scenery with a fourth-wall breach and hints at future entries in the series
Art/design:
Each room’s points of interest are clearly delineated for easy reference during play; facing-page descriptions and map shows off the latter’s artistic inversion
Usability:
Numbering correlate descriptions to map locations (ordered bottom up, right to left)

Swamp Wizard

Concept: “Exiled men turned to the mires. They found rotten powers there, eternally binding them to the heart of the bog.”
Content:
An unforgiving and implacable wetland magic user
Writing:
Mostly devoted to its absolutely brutal special abilities
Art/design:
Scratchy lines in various greys create an appropriate horror-in-the-woods atmosphere; text and images create horizonal balance in a very vertical layout
Usability:
PCs should have their wills in order before facing even one of these

The Butcher of Wästland

Concept: “Death is coming, the darkness that will swallow the dawn.”
Content:
A spiked meteor hammer to the face
Writing:
Descriptive text establishes the tone, and the special ability description provides a concrete image of combat
Art/design:
Illustration is gritty and impressionistic but very expressive within a fairly limited palette
Usability:
High HP, medium armor, and the potential to do lots of damage make this a challenging opponent
