Ahimsa Kerp

1990s Proto-Folklore

Concept: “A handful of classes and items that are, if not yet proper folk lore, on the verge of reaching full folkloredom, pulled from the deep well that is 1990's culture.”
Content:
Two character classes (one based on a movie starring Brandon Lee, the other on a comic by Bill Waterson) and a handful of items inspired by iconic films
Writing:
Elegantly captures its source materials’ respective characters
Art/design:
That rug really ties the page together
Usability:
Typographical hierarchy makes for easy navigation

Album Crawl

19 contributors
Concept: “A collection of deafening dungeons and auditory misadventures for MÖRK BORG.”
Content:
22 music-inspired settings and scenarios; many intriguing rules and foes; alternate Miseries; a whole spread of punishments for unruly dice
Writing:
Variously fascinating and horrifying
Art/design:
Widely variegated but all nicely done
Usability:
A couple atypical layouts that reward a bit of scrutiny and patience

Tannsowan

Concept: “When monsters die, you are there […] ready to bloodily wrest teeth from skull.”
Content:
A necromancer who raises skeletons from sown teeth
Writing:
Straightforward and direct; includes suggestions for skeletons’ dialogue
Art/design:
Linear organization with public domain art that supports the concept
Usability:
Only provides one class feature but offers variability within it

The Bastard of the Badlands

Concept: “Whoever claims the Bastard will have the power to rule over the land. Or to destroy it.”
Content:
A frozen-wasteland-themed dungeon; also includes the badlands ranger character class
Writing:
Nice descriptions but not as grimly humorous as Mörk Borg’s standard
Art/design:
Also a departure from the standard, but does evoke a sense of place
Usability:
Occasionally substitutes D20 terms like “check” and “AC”

Zephyr Wyrm

Concept: “From the West she came / Her fiery wings Soared / The land withered in flame / And with her rode the Horde”
Content:
Some poetic flavor, a beastly stat block, and a Horde-generation table
Writing:
The picture of concision
Art/design:
This one is a really bright, vibrant misery
Usability:
Highly lethal but allergic to mulch squirrels
