Galgenbeck

Chapel of Pain

Concept: “In the halls of the dead where flayed men wander, the darkness snuffs out the light. It tears the flames from candle and log.”
Content: A dark temple crawl through a cult of shadows.
Writing: A gory supernatural survival horror. Makes use of light as a resource to maintain suspense.
Art/design: Traditional adventure layout. Gridded, un-gridded, and notated map. Handout images for significant adventure features.
Usability: Not actually a pain.

Galgenbeck Sacrifice

“Half of Galgenbeck's population is gone. Most have fallen to Josilfa's scythe. The city seems eerily empty, but nobody notices the citizens' absence. Galgenbeck was always half empty. All is as it should be.”

Sacrifice Before Sunrise

Concept: “A plan to dethrone King Fathmu IX by replacing him with the grotesque child-god is mere days from success.”
Content: Political assassination by ritual god-child sacrifice.
Writing: A surprising amount of depth for a tiny, burned village and the chase for an infant god.
Art/design: Divine blend of color, artful illustration, and navigable sidebar column layout.
Usability: Easier to use than murdering a god-baby.

The Raining Caves

Concept: "As the world grows dark with Nechrubel’s influence... they farm the mushrooms, listen to the messages they give them, and wait."
Content: A slick cavern complex full of apostates, visions, monsters, and spores.
Writing: Encounter structure that builds toward the insidious influence of the fungi and the waters on the cultists.
Art/design: Illustrations highlight a traditional text. Variety in typeface throughout. The contrast in type color creates visual breaks between room descriptions.
Usability: Background, Map, Encounter, and NPC sections blocked. Adventure is best referenced in print.

Viggo's Retinue

Concept: “A faction of sinister saviors from Galgenbeck”
Content: Exorcists of questionable motive.
Writing: The zealous interests of Galgenbeck are reflected in a morally ambiguous trio of exorcists.
Art/design: Menacing wanderers approaching, text shielded by the inverted cross of the One Trve Faith.
Usability: Blessed with the background and motive to drop into any session.
